Prayer times
- Indonesia: Bimas Islam, Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag RI). The official timetable for every regency and city, from bimasislam.kemenag.go.id/jadwalshalat. Copied exactly, with no rounding or adjustment.
- Malaysia: JAKIM, e-Solat. The official times for every zone, from e-solat.gov.my, including JAKIM's qibla bearing for each zone.
- Checks. Every table is checked before it is published: every day present, times in order, and no jump of more than five minutes from one day to the next. A table that fails is not published. Details are in the API documentation:
/api/v1. - Region coordinates, used to find the nearest city and for each city's qibla: a geocode of the region's name from OpenStreetMap Nominatim (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). They are approximate and are never used to calculate prayer times.
The Qur'an
- Arabic text: Uthmani script, the narration of Hafs from 'Asim (Madinah mushaf), from the Quran.com API (Quran Foundation).
- English translation: Saheeh International, via Quran.com. Its footnotes are not shown.
- Indonesian translation and tafsir: Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia (2019 revised edition), via the equran.id API.
- Transliteration: equran.id.
- Recitation: Sheikh Mishary Rashid Alafasy, from everyayah.com.
- Juz, pages and verses of prostration: Quran.com.
How we keep the text intact. The text is stored exactly as the source sends it. Every time the site is built, we check that all 114 surahs have the right number of verses (6,236 in all) and that the data's fingerprint (hash) has not changed since it was downloaded. If anything does not match, the site is not built.
Du'a, dhikr and the 99 Names
- Fortress of the Muslim (Hisn al-Muslim) by Sa'id ibn 'Ali ibn Wahf al-Qahtani, as included in the Sajadah app's data, with each hadith source. Passages the app shortens are completed from hisnmuslim.com; the English is lightly edited.
- Qur'anic passages on the dhikr pages use the same text and translation as our Qur'an pages.
- The 99 Names: the Sajadah app's data, in the order narrated by at-Tirmidhi.
Hijri calendar
JAKIM's Hijri takwim (MABIMS criteria), via e-Solat. Outside Malaysia the dates are expected dates; in Indonesia the start of Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah is set at the sidang isbat. Data: /api/v1/hijri/{year}.json.
Qibla and maps
The qibla is calculated in your browser as the initial great-circle bearing to the Kaaba (21.422487° N, 39.826206° E). Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, tiles from tile.openstreetmap.org.
In the Sajadah app
Besides the sources above, the app uses:
- Mushaf page view: page layouts and fonts from Quran Foundation (api.quran.com, verses.quran.foundation). The page fonts are the work of the King Fahd Glorious Qur'an Printing Complex, Madinah.
- Tafsir: the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs' tafsir via equran.id, and Tafsir Ibn Kathir and al-Muyassar via Quran.com.
- Nearby mosques: data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), searched through the Overpass API, operated by FOSSGIS e.V.
- Mosque and qibla maps: tiles from tile.openstreetmap.org (OpenStreetMap Foundation).
- Recitation: everyayah.com.
