Al-Qiyamah

القيامة

The Resurrection

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

  1. لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۝١

    Lā uqsimu biyaumil-qiyāmah(ti).

    I swear by the Day of Resurrection

  2. وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ ۝٢

    Wa lā uqsimu bin nafsil-lawwāmah(ti).

    And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].

  3. أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ ۝٣

    Ayaḥsabul-insānu allan najma‘a ‘iẓāmah(ū).

    Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?

  4. بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ ۝٤

    Balā qādirīna ‘alā an nusawwiya banānah(ū).

    Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.

  5. بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ ۝٥

    Bal yurīdul-insānu liyafjura amāmah(ū).

    But man desires to continue in sin.

  6. يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۝٦

    Yas'alu ayyāna yaumul-qiyāmah(ti).

    He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection?"

  7. فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ ۝٧

    Fa iżā bariqal-baṣar(u).

    So when vision is dazzled.

  8. وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ ۝٨

    Wa khasafal-qamar(u).

    And the moon darkens.

  9. وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ ۝٩

    Wa jumi‘asy-syamsu wal-qamar(u).

    And the sun and the moon are joined,

  10. يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ ۝١٠

    Yaqūlul-insānu yauma'iżin ainal-mafarr(u).

    Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?"

  11. كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ ۝١١

    Kallā lā wazar(a).

    No! There is no refuge.

  12. إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ ۝١٢

    Ilā rabbika yauma'iżinil-mustaqarr(u).

    To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.

  13. يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ ۝١٣

    Yunabba'ul-insānu yauma'iżim bimā qaddama wa akhkhar(a).

    Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.

  14. بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌ ۝١٤

    Balil-insānu ‘alā nafsihī baṣīrah(tun).

    Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,

  15. وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ ۝١٥

    Wa lau alqā ma‘āżīrah(ū).

    Even if he presents his excuses.

  16. لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ ۝١٦

    Lā tuḥarrik bihī lisānaka lita‘jala bih(ī).

    Move not your tongue with it, [O Muḥammad], to hasten with it [i.e., recitation of the Qur’ān].

  17. إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ ۝١٧

    Inna ‘alainā jam‘ahū wa qur'ānah(ū).

    Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.

  18. فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ ۝١٨

    Fa iżā qara'nāhu fattabi‘ qur'ānah(ū).

    So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.

  19. ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ ۝١٩

    Ṡumma inna ‘alainā bayānah(ū).

    Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].

  20. كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ ۝٢٠

    Kallā bal tuḥibbūnal-‘ājilah(ta).

    No! But you [i.e., mankind] love the immediate

  21. وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۝٢١

    Wa tażarūnal-‘ākhirah(ta).

    And leave [i.e., neglect] the Hereafter.

  22. وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ ۝٢٢

    Wujūhuy yauma'iżin nāḍirah(tun).

    [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,

  23. إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ ۝٢٣

    Ilā rabbihā nāẓirah(tun).

    Looking at their Lord.

  24. وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ ۝٢٤

    Wa wujūhuy yauma'iżim bāsirah(tun).

    And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted,

  25. تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ ۝٢٥

    Taẓunnu ay yuf‘ala bihā fāqirah(tun).

    Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.

  26. كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ ۝٢٦

    Kallā iżā balagatit-tarāqiy(a).

    No! When it [i.e., the soul] has reached the collar bones

  27. وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ ۝٢٧

    Wa qīla man…rāq(in).

    And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?"

  28. وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ ۝٢٨

    Wa ẓanna annahul-firāq(u).

    And he [i.e., the dying one] is certain that it is the [time of] separation

  29. وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ ۝٢٩

    Waltaffatis-sāqu bis-sāq(i).

    And the leg is wound about the leg,

  30. إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ ۝٣٠

    Ilā rabbika yauma'iżinil-masāq(u).

    To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.

  31. فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ ۝٣١

    Falā ṣaddaqa wa lā ṣallā.

    And he [i.e., the disbeliever] had not believed, nor had he prayed.

  32. وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ۝٣٢

    Wa lākin każżaba wa tawallā.

    But [instead], he denied and turned away.

  33. ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ ۝٣٣

    Ṡumma żahaba ilā ahlihī yatamaṭṭā.

    And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].

  34. أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ ۝٣٤

    Aulā laka fa'aulā.

    Woe to you, and woe!

  35. ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ ۝٣٥

    Ṡumma aulā laka fa'aulā.

    Then woe to you, and woe!

  36. أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى ۝٣٦

    Ayaḥsabul-insānu ay yutraka sudā(n).

    Does man think that he will be left neglected?

  37. أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ ۝٣٧

    Alam yaku nuṭfatam mim maniyyiy yumnā.

    Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted?

  38. ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ۝٣٨

    Ṡumma kāna ‘alaqatan fa khalaqa fa sawwā.

    Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allāh] created [his form] and proportioned [him]

  39. فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ ۝٣٩

    Fa ja‘ala minhuz-zaujainiż-żakara wal-unṡā.

    And made of him two mates, the male and the female.

  40. أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۝٤٠

    Alaisa żālika biqādirin ‘alā ay yuḥyiyal-mautā.

    Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
