Al-Fajr

الفجر

The Dawn

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

  1. وَٱلْفَجْرِ ۝١

    Wal-fajr(i).

    By the dawn

  2. وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ ۝٢

    Wa layālin ‘asyr(in).

    And [by] ten nights

  3. وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ ۝٣

    Wasy-syaf‘i wal-watr(i).

    And [by] the even [number] and the odd

  4. وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ ۝٤

    Wal-laili iżā yasr(i).

    And [by] the night when it passes,

  5. هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ ۝٥

    Hal fī żālika qasamul liżī ḥijr(in).

    Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?

  6. أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ ۝٦

    Alam tara kaifa fa‘ala rabbuka bi‘ād(in).

    Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with ʿAad -

  7. إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ ۝٧

    Irama żātil-‘imād(i).

    [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,

  8. ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ ۝٨

    Allatī lam yukhlaq miṡluhā fil-bilād(i).

    The likes of whom had never been created in the land?

  9. وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ ۝٩

    Wa ṡamūdal-lażīna jābuṣ-ṣakhra bil-wād(i).

    And [with] Thamūd, who carved out the rocks in the valley?

  10. وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ ۝١٠

    Wa fir‘auna żil-autād(i).

    And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes?

  11. ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ ۝١١

    Allażīna ṭagau fil-bilād(i).

    [All of] whom oppressed within the lands

  12. فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ ۝١٢

    Fa akṡarū fīhal-fasād(a).

    And increased therein the corruption.

  13. فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ ۝١٣

    Fa ṣabba ‘alaihim rabbuka sauṭa ‘ażāb(in).

    So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.

  14. إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ ۝١٤

    Inna rabbaka labil-mirṣād(i).

    Indeed, your Lord is in observation.

  15. فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ ۝١٥

    Fa ammal-insānu iżā mabtalāhu rabbuhū fa akramahū wa na‘‘amah(ū), fa yaqūlu rabbī akraman(i).

    And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."

  16. وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ ۝١٦

    Wa ammā iżā mabtalāhu fa qadara ‘alaihi rizqah(ū), fa yaqūlu rabbī ahānan(i).

    But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."

  17. كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ ۝١٧

    Kallā bal lā tukrimūnal-yatīm(a).

    No! But you do not honor the orphan

  18. وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ ۝١٨

    Wa lā taḥāḍḍūna ‘alā ṭa‘āmil-miskīn(i).

    And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.

  19. وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا ۝١٩

    Wa ta'kulūnat-turāṡa aklal lammā(n).

    And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,

  20. وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا ۝٢٠

    Wa tuḥibbūnal-māla ḥubban jammā(n).

    And you love wealth with immense love.

  21. كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا ۝٢١

    Kallā iżā dukkatil-arḍu dakkan dakkā(n).

    No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed

  22. وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا ۝٢٢

    Wa jā'a rabbuka wal-malaku ṣaffan ṣaffā(n).

    And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,

  23. وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ۝٢٣

    Wa jī'a yauma'iżim bijahannam(a), yauma'iżiy yatażakkarul-insānu wa annā lahuż-żikrā.

    And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but how [i.e., what good] to him will be the remembrance?

  24. يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى ۝٢٤

    Yaqūlu yā laitanī qaddamtu liḥayātī.

    He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."

  25. فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ۝٢٥

    Fa yauma'iżil lā yu‘ażżibu ‘ażābahū aḥad(un).

    So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,

  26. وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ ۝٢٦

    Wa lā yūṡiqu waṡāqahū aḥad(un).

    And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].

  27. يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ۝٢٧

    Yā ayyatuhan-nafsul-muṭma'innah(tu).

    [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,

  28. ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً ۝٢٨

    Irji‘ī ilā rabbiki rāḍiyatam marḍiyyah(tan).

    Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],

  29. فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى ۝٢٩

    Fadkhuli fī ‘ibādī.

    And enter among My [righteous] servants

  30. وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى ۝٣٠

    Wadkhulī jannatī.

    And enter My Paradise."
